Measles-rubella vaccination campaign launched in L/Subansiri, Lohit

ZIRO, 21 Aug: A weeklong measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign was launched in Lower Subansiri district on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme declared the launch of the MR campaign by administering an oral polio vaccine booster dose along with Vitamin A supplementation to a young beneficiary. She also led the proceedings by cutting the ribbon on the vaccine carrier, symbolizing the rollout of the campaign.

The MR campaign is part of a broader national effort to eliminate measles and rubella, focusing on vaccinating children in the age group of 9 months to 5 years. This initiative is expected to cover schools, anganwadi centres, and remote villages across the district, with special emphasis on hard-to-reach areas to achieve maximum coverage.

Speaking on the occasion, DMO Dr Millo Kunya emphasized the importance of community participation in making the campaign a success. The administration has assured that all necessary precautions, including cold chain maintenance and trained healthcare workers, are in place to ensure safe and effective immunization.

Residents of the district have been encouraged to bring their children to the nearest vaccination sites and support this lifesaving effort during the campaign.

The inauguration ceremony of the campaign was organised by key health officials, including the district medical officer, district reproductive and child health officer (i/c), medical superintendent, RRT-WHO, and other programme officers.

In Lohit district, the MR vaccination campaign was launched on Thursday by Deputy Commissioner KN Damo at the zonal general hospital in Tezu, in the presence of Sunpura ZPM A Chaitom, SMO (SG) Dr S Towang, DMO (i/c) Dr T Koyu, and others.
