Editor,
The Arunachal Pradesh Allied and Healthcare Council (APAHC) is a statutory body established in September 2024 to regulate and oversee allied and healthcare professional activities in Arunachal.
It is part of the implementation of the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act, 2021, which requires all states to set up such councils for standardising education, practice, and registration of allied health professionals.
The APAHC is responsible for registering allied and healthcare professionals working within Arunachal, maintaining standards of education, enforcing professional guidelines, and ensuring quality healthcare services. It has the authority to frame policies regarding training, conduct, and licencing of professionals such as medical laboratory technologists, physiotherapists, radiology technologists, and other key allied healthcare workers.
The council also collaborates with the central NCAHP to ensure that professionals in Arunachal meet national and state criteria for practice and education.
The council was constituted under the Arunachal Pradesh Allied and Healthcare Council Rules, 2023, and is empowered to implement the provisions of the NCAHP Act at the state level.
Professionals who wish to practice in the state need to enrol with the council, and no charges or fees are currently levied for this registration/enrollment.
The APAHC conducted a press conference in July 2025, updating stakeholders about its roles, healthcare reforms, council initiatives, and ongoing activities aimed at strengthening allied health professions in the state.
The council is expected to have a significant impact on quality assurance and professional regulation in allied health fields, improving opportunities for qualified professionals and ensuring better compliance in care delivery.
In several states across India, as well as at the central level, the council is already functioning effectively. However, in Arunachal, its implementation appears to be at a nascent stage and may take a few more years to become operational. Therefore, I respectfully urge the state government to take appropriate measures to expedite the functioning of this council. Strengthening this initiative will greatly benefit students, working professionals, and the general public in the state.
