ZIRO, 15 Jan: Social worker Subu Choku was conferred the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Global Peace Award by the Human Rights Council of India (HRCI) in Mumbai on Monday.

The award was presented by Haji Shaikh, national president of the HRCI. The award was presented in recognition of her work in the fields of social service, peace-building, and humanitarian values.

Hailing from Ziro in Lower Subansiri district, Choku has devoted several years of her life to serving the society at the grassroots level. Her work mostly focused on social justice, human dignity, and community welfare.

On Wednesday, a programme was organised here in recognition of her achievement by the Arunachal Vikash Parishad. The programme was attended by community members, well-wishers, and admirers.

Speaking on the occasion, Choku said she would continue working for the society in the days to come.
