KHONSA, May 8: The Sports Authority Arunachal (SAA), backed by the state government is striving hard to reach out to rural youths and groom rural sports talents for development of games and sports in the state, said SAA Chairman Bamang Tago.
Interacting with the sports stakeholders of Tirap district at the Kamlesh Joshi conference hall here on Tuesday, Tago said the SSA and the Sports department were taking all measures to explore and groom rural talent so that they could compete in national and international level events.
The SAA chairman, during his visit, took stock of the ground realities for development of sports in Tirap district.
“The Chief Minister Pema Khandu led Government has committed to develop sports in Tirap, Changlang and Longding (TCL) districts in particular, and Rs 15 crore was announced during the recent budget for establishment of a sports school for the TCL districts,” he said.
He said the youths of Tirap have immense potential but are ‘underexposed’ and ‘underdeveloped’ due to lack of infrastructure.
Tago appealed to the parents, guardians and the elected leaders of the district to encourage the youths to play sports and make career out of it.
The interactive meeting was attended by District Sports Officer (in-charge) Noah Mongku, officials of Tirap District Olympic Association and various district level sports associations.
