ITANAGAR, Jun 28: Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Dr Mohesh Chai has congratulated Johny Mangkhiya on becoming the first sportsperson from Arunachal Pradesh to represent India in the Asian Games.
“Johny has opened a new chapter in the sports history of Arunachal Pradesh. I hope the young players of our state will draw inspiration from her achievement and be able to represent the country in their chosen sports disciplines in the days to come,” Dr Chai said in a press statement.
The minister said Johny will be given due recognition as per the provisions under the state’s sports policy.
Karateka Mangkhiya will represent the country in Kumite below 68 kg category in the 18th Asian Games to be held in Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September.
She is currently training in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, under the guidance of the officials of the Karate Association India.
