TEZU, Jul 6: Dree festival was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at the newly inaugurated Dree ground here in Lohit district on Thursday.
Agriculture Minister Dr Mohesh Chai, who also attended the programme, assured to provide Rs 5 lakhs from his MLALAD fund to install all the basic facilities at the ground. He also praised local businessmen Ojimso Tayang for donating land for a part of the ground.
Lauding the progressive nature of the Apatani tribe, SP DW Thongdok spoke about the connection between festivals and cultural ethos. Celebration committee chairman Dr Hage Naku presented the mythology of the festival.
In Honoko in Lower Subansiri district, Tourism Minister Jarkar Gamlin called for preservation of age-old culture and traditions, irrespective of religious differences.
He also highlighted the programmes initiated by the government, and later felicitated the toppers in the Class 10 and 12 exams.
Colourful cultural presentations and traditional games were the highlights of the celebration. (With DIPRO input)
