ZIRO, Jul 15: The Apatani Students’ Union (ASU) has given the Lower Subansiri district administration 10 days to fulfill its various demands, failing which the union threatened to launch a democratic movement.
The union said it had on 26 June served a 15-day ultimatum to the deputy commissioner, highlighting the demands, but the authority did not respond.
“If the authority fails to respond to our demands this time, we will be left with no other option but to go on democratic movement,” the union said in its latest representation, which it submitted to the DC on 13 July.
The ASU’s demands are demarcation of the boundary of the Dani Kunya Govt Higher Secondary School (GHSS) here; posting of sufficient science and commerce teachers at the GHSS in Hija; notifying the names of the paid and unpaid beneficiaries under the TAH, with amounts; reassessment of the TAH project from Pai Gate to Pine Groove area; release of the remaining compensation to the affected families; displaying the list of compensation to the beneficiaries, with chainage number; and displaying the local land acquired, with components of the land.
In the event that the administration fails to meet its demands, the union said it would enforce a 12-hour bandh within its jurisdiction on 24 July, in the first phase of its democratic movement.
