PANGIN, Oct 10: Underscoring the importance of maintaining good health and sanitation practices, Siang Deputy Commissioner Rahul Singh called upon all concerned to join hands in creating public awareness about the benefits of constructing toilets.
Reviewing the progress of Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) in a meeting on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner said that a proper sanitary toilet has become indispensable for healthy living. He sought the cooperation and support of all the stakeholders to meet the December, 2017 deadline set by the government to make the state Open Defecation Free (ODF).
He urged the public to look for the long-term benefits rather than the cash incentives being provided by the government for toilet construction.
He directed the work department to come up with cost effective solutions for construction of toilets, and advised all stakeholders to work with close coordination and cooperation to ensure success of the programme.
Executive Engineer (PHE & WS) Subat Pertin highlighted on target achieved till date, data on geo tagging of IHHL, issues pertaining to implementation of the programme, steps towards achieving Mission ODF through PowerPoint.
Later, several resolutions were adopted for making Siang district ODF by the end of 2017.
The meeting was attended by various administrative officers, departmental heads and engineers, PRI members and public leaders from all over the district. (DIPRO)
