ITANAGAR, Oct 3: The Chief Post Master General’s (CPMG) office in Shillong on Monday instructed for restoration of Dr RK Vershney’s money in connection with the alleged Chongkham post office fraud.
In a letter to the Director of Postal Services (DPS), Arunachal Pradesh division, the APMG (PG), on behalf of the CPMG directed the Arunachal division to look into the matter and to report on the action taken by 4 October.
Earlier, a similar direction was issued on 25 September from the Shillong headquarters after the India Post took note of a tweet made by Dr Vershney’s son, Rishab Varshney on the matter.
However, there has been little to no action on the directions sent from the North East circle headquarters of Shillong.
Dr Vershney said that he had followed up on the first order, but since the DPS was on leave, he was told that
action would be initiated after he resumes office.
He also made contact on Monday and was told that his case is being looked into and would take a few days.
When contacted, the office of the DPS informed this daily that the matter is being reviewed and would require two to three days.
Dr Versheny had been swindled off of his money by India Post officials of the Chongkham branch under Namsai district and has been waiting for over two years to retrieve the amount.
Apart from the Rs 4 lakhs, the retired veterinary officer has to receive Rs 4, 84, 136, which was allegedly fraudulently taken by then Chowkham Sub-Post Office SPM Ranjana Singh in 2015.
The total amount of Rs 8, 84, 136 is the capital amount and does not include the annual interest or other charges.
