NAHARLAGUN, Oct 4: Timely action by the police and the fire department averted a major fire mishap from occurring at the super market area here on early Thursday morning.
Two vendor sheds and properties in two different locations of the market area were damaged by fire that occurred in the wee hours. However, close coordination between the Naharlagun police and fire station stopped the flames from spreading in the congested area.
“It might have been an act of miscreants. A case of arson has been registered at the Naharlagun police station,” Capital SP M Harsha Vardhan said.
Meanwhile, the All Arunachal Pradesh Hawkers and Street Vendors Federation, whose members visited the spot, demanded the arrest of the culprits involved in the incident.
It requested the administration to provide compensation to the victims, and called for restoration of the market sheds at the earliest.
