CHANDIGARH, Nov 9: The 4th North East Youth Fest Chandigarh, themed ‘North East Youth towards Nation Building’, began here on Friday amid a gathering of over 1200 youths from the eight northeastern states.
Addressing the participants, Chandigarh DIG Om Prakash urged them to have respect for others, show mutual tolerance, and keep away from crimes.
Sub-divisional Magistrate Arjun Sharma spoke about the administration’s initiative in creating a special cell for the NE with a helpline functioning round the clock.
The director of Don Bosco Navjeevan (DBN), Chandigarh, Fr Reji Tom, said the DBN would collaborate with the special cell and do everything possible to make the facility function for the benefit of the Northeasterners.
Earlier, the director of Don Bosco Youth Centre (DBYC), Itanagar, Fr Cyriac, congratulated the youth leaders from the eight NE states who worked hard to make the event possible. He read out a message from Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, which exhorted young people of the NE to adjust well to the environment of the cities they live in.
The CM in his message also congratulated the DBN and the DBYC for the initiative.
The two-day socio-cultural and educational event will feature young talents from all the eight NE states actively participating and enriching themselves by listening to and interacting with a dozen motivational speakers.
