PAPU NALLAH, Dec 16: Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) No 2, Itanagar, representing Papum Pare district, won the inaugural state level kabaddi championship, defeating Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA), Chimpu, by four points in the final here on Sunday.
Tata Mosing of Kra Daadi and Tai Tania of SLSA were adjudged the best raider and best tackler of the tournament, respectively.
Christian Mission School, representing Kurung Kumey, won the ‘best disciplined team’ award.
Sports Authority of Arunachal Chairman Bamang Tago, who attended the closing ceremony, said “Arunachal Pradesh is now emerging as a sports power of the country.”
Highlighting the improved performance of the state in various sports disciplines, Tago advised the Arunachal Kabaddi Association (AKA) to conduct events at the district level also to promote and popularize kabaddi.
The SAA chairman was critical of various sports associations affiliated with the SAA not conducting tournaments.
“There are many associations which do not have their annual event calendars,” he said, and warned of action against “inactive” sports associations.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by the AKA, Tago assured to extend financial support as per the norms of the SAA.
Former MLA Kipa Babu encouraged the players to take up sports as a profession, while All Arunachal Contractor Welfare Association president Nabam Akin Hina assured to help the AKA in conducting tournament in the future.
Earlier, AKA president Dongchey Peter briefed about the tournament and the challenges faced by the association in conducting it.
Teams from 11 districts participated in the championship.
