ITANAGAR, Feb 4: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Takam Sanjoy has condemned the four-year delay by the state government in appointing candidates on compassionate grounds in the Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) as per the advertisement published in the local dailies on 4 November, 2015.
In a press release, Sanjoy said he received a joint representation on Monday from the deprived eligible candidates regarding the matter, and was informed that on 4 November, 2015, an advertisement was published in the local dailies by the director general of police, proposing to fill up various posts in the APP with eligible candidates whose guardians died in harness.
Following this, over 500 applications were submitted by family members (including widows, sons and daughters) of deceased personnel.
Sanjoy said the department had called for physical verification and documentation of all the applications to fill up various posts in the APP on compassionate grounds towards the end of November 2015.
“Since then, there is no progress in the said matter, and as a result they are facing severe trauma in their day-to-day life,” the APCC president said.
He further said the state government had on 1 February, 2017, issued a notification in which the governor had reconstituted a committee for considering cases for compassionate appointment in the police department.
“The delay in the appointment process is a big harassment to all the family members of the deceased police personnel. It is learnt that new appointment was made on compassionate grounds in the APP, while those who applied in 2015 are kept pending since last four years in spite of repeated requests and reminders by the deprived candidates,” Sanjoy said.
He also raised concern over the reported halt in disbursing pensions and other related relief to the widows and family members of deceased police personnel.
“The deprived candidates have been loitering around the police headquarters in Itanagar to seek explanation for the prolonged delay in the compassionate appointment, but till date no action has been initiated by the department to redress their grievances,” the APCC president claimed.
Urging the state government to take immediate steps for their appointment, the APCC said it would otherwise join and support the deprived candidates in fighting for their demands.
