Shopkeeper injured in acid attack in Longding

LONGDING, Feb 4: A shopkeeper and his brother were seriously injured when an unidentified person threw acid at them at the main market here on Sunday evening.
The victims have been identified as Anwar Uddin (35) and Akter Uddin (33). Five customers, one of them a police constable, who were standing nearby also received minor injuries in the incident.
Anwar and his brother Akter were evacuated to a hospital in Dibrugarh, Assam, for treatment.
The five persons who received minor injuries were given first aid at the Longding CHC.
“Although the attack was not life threatening, it has damaged the cornea of the left eye of Anwar,” said Dr P Tayeng.
Akter has received severe burn injuries, Dr Tayeng said.
The incident occurred when an unidentified person sprayed a jug full of acid over Anwar, when he was attending to the customers.
The victim runs a mobile shop in the main market area.
The attacker disappeared immediately after committing the crime.
Longding DC VS Malik and SP Rohit Meena reached the spot soon after hearing about the incident and scrutinized all the CCTV footages.
“The culprit will be apprehended soon and dealt with iron hand,” the SP said.
Anwar Uddin told police that he had no personal enmity with anyone here.
Meanwhile, Longding MLA Thangwang Wangham has condemned the acid attack. (DIPRO)
