ROING, Mar 17: Carcass of a hog deer has been seized and the alleged poacher arrested by the forest officials here in Lower Dibang Valley district.
The team of forest officials, headed by RFO Bibom Kamdak, found the carcass of the animal on a motorcycle parked near Chidu Cillage area near here on Thursday.
The team succeeded in tracing the owner of the motorcycle through RTO information.
The motorcycle owner, a resident of Meka village, has been arrested from his home the next day.
Later, he was handed over to Police Station here. Reportedly, the poacher has admitted his crime during police interrogation.
The poacher has been booked under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Later, the forest officials, after conducting post mortem, burnt the carcass and buried the remains in the presence of police and members of wildlife activists.
Hog deer are listed in the IUCN Red List of endangered species, and are protected under Schedule-I of the Indian Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
