ITANAGAR, Mar 22: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has announced Mongol Yomso, former state president of the Republican Party of India (RPI), as its candidate for the Arunachal East parliamentary constituency.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the party had in its first list released the names of nine assembly candidates and the name of its candidate for the Arunachal West parliamentary constituency, Subu Kechi.
Addressing reporters at the Arunachal Press Club here on Friday evening, Yomso said he resigned from the RPI “on moral grounds” after the party failed to give tickets to 11 aspiring candidates for the assembly constituencies and one for the east parliamentary constituency on time.
“The RPI had announced to field 11 MLA candidates and one MP from Arunachal Pradesh, but on 19 March, party president Ramdas Athawale informed that the party decided to retract their candidatures following some technical issue,” Yomso said. He said he was shocked and confused at the decision as no tickets had been announced till then, even as the dates for filing of nominations are drawing closer.
“The delay in action on the part of the RPI has disappointed the aspiring candidates, and I, as the state president of the party, felt it my responsibility to resign from the party,” said Yomso.
He said the PPA was the best option for him to join “as the party focuses on the regional interests.”
PPA chairman Kamen Ringu informed that the party will soon announce the second list of its candidates.
Court fixes W/S date
Meanwhile, after hearing a case (Title Suit No 2/19) filed by Kahfa Bengia and another against Kamen Ringu on 19 March, the court of the capital complex civil judge (junior division) has fixed 27 March as the next date for the written statement (W/S).
According to the court order, counsel R Riba appeared for the defendant and submitted that senior counsel M Pertin instructed him to take adjournment of the case as the defendant is preoccupied with work related to the elections. The counsel also prayed that the matter be fixed after a week, and his prayer was allowed.
Earlier, the plaintiffs had filed the case under Section 38 of the Specific Relief Act, 1963, with a prayer for granting permanent prohibitory injunction and mandatory injunction restraining the defendant from issuing show cause notices and suspending the plaintiffs from their posts and quashing of the order dated 10 March issued by PPA central working committee chairman Kamen Ringu.
