MIAO, Aug 30: The Miao unit police on Monday apprehended two hardcore NSCN-R cadres, Khapsom Ngaimong (19) and Pengwang Kanglom (22).
An operation to capture the suspects was launched based on input about the presence of underground cadres at Hotel Ranjit in Lower Market of Miao for the purpose of extortion.
Miao Police Station OC, Inspector R Khomrang, accompanied by L/SI Bharati Mingki, SI J Aran and other police personnel rushed to the spot and cordoned the suspected hotel.
Sensing the presence of police, the cadres reportedly tried to escape from the spot but were overpowered and apprehended thereof.
The team seized a sizeable amount of arms and ammunitions, which included a .22 mm pistol with magazine and six live rounds, a .32 mm pistol with magazine and three live rounds, 20 live rounds of a 7.62 mm, a dagger, cash amount of Rs 12,350 and two extortion notes.
A regular case u/s 384/34 IPC r/w sec 25(1B) Arms Act r/w sec 13 UAP Act has been registered at Miao Police Station.
Later, another over ground worker identified as Shiv Lal Kurmi (35) was also apprehended during a joint operation by the police, Assam Rifles and CRPF, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police, John Pada and Superintendent of Police Amit Sharma.
