NAHARLAGUN, Nov 20: The three-day modular training of medical officers of the state was inaugurated by Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) Secretary & NHM MD P Parthiban here on Wednesday.
The training, facilitated by master trainers Dr D Padung, Dr Tage Taka, and Mejjo Bagra, is being imparted to 25 medical officers (MO) from across the state.
In his inaugural address, the H&FW secretary stressed on the leadership quality of medical officers at the block level and exhorted them to work hard and lead from the front “so that the target of achieving more than 90 percent or full immunization coverage is realised.”
He also advised all to create more awareness among the public at the village level through meticulous planning and involvement of ASHAs and AWWs so that there is demand for the services. “All the districts with low coverage need to scale up their activities and ensure improvement in coverage during the year,” he added.
Family Welfare Director Dr Allok Yirang spoke on the urgency to increase the coverage under routine immunization programme and more so during the upcoming IMI 2.0. He also advised all the MOs to master the guidelines and give hands-on training to all paramedics in their area of operation.
Earlier, State Immunization Officer Dr D Padung introduced the participants to the objective of the training. He highlighted the current status of full immunization coverage and the need for augmentation of RI activities for achieving FIC of more than 90 percent.
“Either due to drop-out or left-out children, many unimmunised children could contact illness from otherwise vaccine-preventable diseases,” he said, and appealed to all MOs to be proactive and implement the new micro plan that has been notified recently by the state government.
