ROING, Feb 22: The Laprey Sirum of Jia Banggo organized a ‘pear tree plantation programme’ here in Lower Dibang Valley district on Saturday “as a duty to contribute towards village development.”
Attending the programme, APFTI Director Tobang Perting highlighted the importance of flora and fauna and their role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem.
Expressing concern over global warming caused by dwindling forest areas, he urged youths to “plant at least three plants for a tree felled down.”
As many as 1100 pear cuttings were planted during the programme, which saw the participation of ex-officio members of the Jia ACLS unit, GBs, and village elders.
