TAWANG, Sep 8: The 7th Greater Kameng Badminton Championship began at Indoor Stadium Jang on Friday.
Addressing the gathering during the inaugural programme, Parliamentary Secretary (Planning and Personnel) Chau Zingnu Namchoom fondly remembered the contribution of former Chief Minister late Dorjee Khandu in reviving and popularizing the sport of badminton in Arunachal Pradesh.
Parliamentary Secretary (RWD and Skill Development) Jambey Tashi exhorted the youths to come forward and play badminton. He suggested that the tournament should also include the Junior and Sub-Junior categories in order to give the budding players a chance to show their hidden talent.
Local MLA Tsering Tashi also spoke and said that the tournament has been a symbol of communal harmony and is providing a platform to exchange culture and foster unity and brotherhood among the people of erstwhile Kameng district through sports.
Around 200 players from Seppa, Bhalukpong, Nafra, Dirang, Bomdila and Tawang are participating in the tournament. DIPRO
