Marathon organized to mark Maitree Diwas

TAWANG, Sep 8: A marathon race from Tawang Monastery to War Memorial was organized here on Friday as part of the ‘Tawang Maitree Diwas’ to be celebrated on September 10 and 11.
The race with theme ‘Run for Peace, Friendship and Unity’ was flagged off by Parliamentary Secretary (Planning and Personnel) Chau Zingnu Namchoom in presence of MLA Tsering Tashi, Brig. MP Singh, Commander, Station HQs. Tawang.
In total, 410 runners, both male and female, participated in the race, which was held in three categories–junior, senior and veteran.
Painting competition on topics ‘Environment’ and ‘Indian Army’ and essay competition on “National Integration’ and ‘Swachh Bharat’ were conducted among the students of eight schools of Tawang on Thursday in connection with the event.
Sponsored by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, ‘Tawang Maitree Diwas’ is being celebrated after a gap of 6 years. It is being organized jointly by Indian Army, District Administration and Yuva Arunachal.
The main objective o the event is to strengthen the civil-military bond.
Founder of Art of Living Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and MoS Home Kiren Rijiju are expected to attend the programme. DIPRO
