ROING, Sep 9: The 51st International Literacy Day was celebrated at Kangkong Upper Primary School under the Saakshar Bharat Mission with the theme “Nari ho ya nar, ao sabko banaye saakshar”, with a two days programme here on Friday.
A rally was taken out around Kangkong village by the teachers and students of the school, holding placards and shouting slogans on the importance of education. Various literary activities, like drawing, painting and essay writing competitions were also conducted among the students to mark the day.
District Coordinator Okey Meto explained about the aims and objectives of the programme and the Saakshar Bharti Mission.
DAEO Emin Rumi spoke about the problems in education system, and also about adult literacy programmes of the government with special reference to the SBM.
He also spoke about the various challenges and overcoming them for women empowerment through education.
Later, prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions.
The event was organized by District Coordinators Okey Meto and Mitinam Tayeng, under the guidance of Headmaster Olik Lego.
At Palin, the Palin Kra Daadi District Sangcha Ajin Foundation organised a district level literary competition to mark World Literacy Day on September 8.
At least 14 private schools and government schools of Kra Daadi district participated in the literary competition, which was held with the intent to motivate children to show their hidden talent and build their confidence.
