ITANAGAR, Sep 13: The All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) alleged the Education Department of misusing the fund sanctioned for school textbooks by purchasing textbooks at three times higher rates from private publishers through contractors/suppliers.
In a release on Wednesday, the union said, ‘The same textbooks could be directly procured from the NCERT/CBSE agency at much cheaper rates’.
Criticizing the state government for deliberately depriving the students of government schools from availing free textbooks since the last two years by not sanctioning any fund for the procurement of textbooks, the Union urged the state government to release adequate funds for procurement of textbooks within a month.
It claimed that even with the mid-academic session of most government run schools complete, students are yet to receive their textbooks.
