SEPPA, Sep 14: Minister of Education, Library and Statistics, Honchun Ngandam began a two-day educational tour of remote places of East Kameng district from last Wednesday.
During his visit, Ngamdam also inaugurated the girl hostels of Government Degree Model College Seppa, and visited KGBV Wessang, DIET Wessang and Holy Family School Seppa. He also inspected the Rama Krishna Mission site at Lumdung.
Addressing participants during the general conference of the All Bameng Khenewa Lada Students’ Union (ABKLSU), the Education Minister exhorted the gathering to go the extra mile to achieve success in life.
He highlighted the policies of the state government, such as doing away with pick-and-choose method of DDSE appointment, designation of gazetted status to PGT, introduction of smart classes, procurement and distribution of textbooks, discontinuation of ‘no detention policy’, increase in number of teachers’ awards, planning for opening of ALS (UPSC examinations coaching institute) for brilliant and economically weaker students, periodic conduct of DPC and rationalization of teachers’ posting.
He assured to process and pursue for a central school at Pakke, additional fund for college playground and fencing, besides other important issues of the VKV, KGBV and DIET Wessang and RK Mission.
Attacking the practise of early and forced marriage, Minister of Home, Kumar Waii advised students to accord top priority to education.
Waii also announced a cash award of Rs 50 lakh to those who would clear the coveted Indian civil services examinations conducted by the UPSC during his tenure as MLA in the future.
Meritorious students and achievers of the 8th Bameng Assembly Constituency were also felicitated and awarded with cash prizes and laptops.
During the inaugural function of girls’ hostel of Government Model Degree College Seppa at Wessang, Parliamentary Secretary of RD & IPR, Mama Natung, Parliamentary Secretary of Tax & Excise Tapuk Taku and DC Rajeev Takuk stressed on the importance of education in bringing positive changes in the society and one’s life.
Colourful cultural programmes and PT display were performed by school and college students during the visits.
