ITANAGAR, Oct 10: Mental Health Awareness programmes and rallies with the theme “Mental Health in the Workplace” were organized in various parts of the Capital Complex to mark the World Mental Health Day on Tuesday.
At Naharlagun, a mental health awareness procession with a rath was flagged off by Special Health Secretary cum NHM MD, Dr Tapasya Raghav. The procession covered Nirjuli and Doimukh townships also.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Raghav called upon the people to take care of their mental health. Stressing on the need for diagnosis and treatment of workplace related psychological and physical problems, she also advocated for creation of conducive workplace everywhere.
Director of Health Services, Dr M Lego exhorted the people to seek treatment for mental illnesses and fight stigma and discrimination attached to mental illness.
This was followed by a panel discussion on the theme at Mental Health Centre, Midpu.
The Centre for Youth Development and Leadership Studies (CYDLS), RGU in association with the Department of Social Work also organized awareness programmes on mental health with the theme “Managing Mental Health at Workplace” in different locations, including Chimpu, Gohpur, Naharlagun, NERIST entrance, Nirjuli, Doimukh and Garage Colony, RGU.
During the programmes, street plays and rallies were organized on various mental health related issues, including counselling, psychiatric first aid and medication. The programme also stressed on the need to bring an end to mental health discrimination.
A total of 50 students, along with the faculty members of the department participated in the day long awareness programme.
