ROING, Oct 18: Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Mukut Mithi on Wednesday inaugurated the Indoor Stadium here named after Ita Pulu, the pioneer of the Idu-Mishmi community.
The inauguration was done in presence of Jati Pulu, son of Ita Pulu and Lower DibangValley Badminton Association (LDVBA) members.
The fund for complete renovation of the defunct structure was provided by Mithi under his MP local area development fund, when approached by the LDVBA, informed Secretary (LDVBA), Open Melo.
The LDVBA appreciated the support from Mithi and former Deputy Commissioner Deepak Shinde in realizing the stadium.
The stadium will also host the 4th Chief Minister’s State Level Sub-Veteran and Veteran Badminton Championship this year.
Melo also informed that the LDVBA will encourage women and children to make use of the stadium. Coaching classes for children interested in badminton will be conducted, Melo informed.
The stadium houses two badminton courts, space for two sets of table tennis, and a decent space for spectators.
A friendly introductory double match was played between the pair of Mithi-Melo and Chiliko Meto-Apomo Linggi. The match was won by Mithi-Melo pair.
The inauguration function was attended by various dignitaries and general public.
