AALO, Oct 25: With a motto to make the schools tobacco free in West Siang district, an official team of District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) conducted a school awareness programme on harmful effects of tobacco in various schools of the district.
During the programme, Consultant, Yomnya Badak gave a PowerPoint presentation on harmful effects of tobacco consumption and highlighted the COTPA Act, 2003, besides warning students not to take tobacco in the school.
Social Work Mobiliser, Obang Mize explained the causes of tobacco related disease and their remedies. Saying that the youths are the main victims of tobacco, Mize said awareness in schools is necessary in order to achieve a tobacco-free school in future.
Psychologist, Miti Gammeng administered the anti-tobacco pledge to the students, teachers and other staff.
Under the supervision of DMO-cum-District Nodal Officer and District Programme officer, the awareness programme was organized in different schools , including Kendriya Vidhyalaya Higher Secondary Schools, Southern Model Schools, Government P.I. Colony Secondary School and Government Yoji-Yora Primary School, Aalo.
