NIRJULI, Oct 26: Thousand of devotees from different parts of Nirjuli offered prayer to the Sun God on the occasion of Chhath Puja (Pehla Arghya) this evening.
The programme also included singing of melodious folk and devotional songs by the devotees.
Earlier in the morning, the youths of Nirjuli Chhath Puja Celebration Committee organized a cleanliness drive on the roads and bank of River Dikrong.
Chhath Puja is celebrated six days after Diwali. It is believed that Chhath is a festival of truth, non-violence, forgiveness and compassion, and that the safe radiation of sunlight helps in curing fungal and bacterial infections and many other diseases.
