TEZU, Oct 30: The Department of Small Savings, Tezu joined the rest of the country in celebrating World Thrift Day with a savings awareness programme, chaired by District Disaster Management Officer Damchin Norbu at Gohaingaon village under Tezu Sardar, where potential savers are large in numbers.
Norbu advised the villagers to take advantage of services offered by the post offices and channelize their hard-earned money in post office savings schemes, reasoning that these schemes are structured to cater to the needs of different sections of the society, especially small investors.
He also urged all mothers to open Sukanya Samriddhi Account, which is designed to educate the girl child.
Department of Small Savings Field Publicity Officer, Jotho Yun gave a detailed historical account about the observation of World Thrift Day. He elaborated on various small savings schemes offered by the Government of India through a wide network of post offices and stressed the need for a practical approach towards bringing every section of society into the savings net.
