ITANAGAR, Nov 2: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has asked the deputy commissioners of Changlang, Namsai, Lohit and Papum Pare districts to refrain from enrolling Chakma and Hajong refugees in the electoral roll as they are not citizens of the country and their claims for citizenship is still sub-judice in the court.
The AAPSU stated that the Chakmas and Hajongs are not the citizens of the country, but foreigners who have illegally entered the state without the consent of the indigenous people.
The AAPSU said that its demands has come after the Supreme Court’s direction to the Government of India and state of Arunachal Pradesh to finalise the conferment of citizenship rights on eligible Chakmas and Hajongs and that citizenship rights was granted.
The AAPSU further said that there are more than 306 criminal cases registered against Chakmas and Hajongs up to 2011.
