TEZU, Nov 19: The “Telosai Mele Prize for Girls’ Academic Excellence” awards were given to toppers of Denning Teacher Training College and meritorious students of class X and XII of Lohit district by the Denning Society on Sunday at the premise of the teachers’ training institute.
The academic prize, which is in its third year, commemorates the life of its founder chairperson, late Telosai Mele, who is also the first lady teacher of the state.
The award includes a cash prize of Rs, 5000, a citation and certificate.
Eldest daughter of late Telosai Mele, Maya Linggi said that the objective of the academic excellence prize is to recognize, encourage, inspire and motivate girls to strive for academic excellence.
The prizes were handed over by Tezu Sub-Divisional Officer, Kajal Karmakar, political leader, Sotai Kri and Gaon Burah, Solai Ngadong.
The Tezu SDO also appreciated the Denning Society for its effort to encourage girls of the district and assured to extend full support to the Society in order to achieve its objective of encouraging girls’ education.
