SAGALEE, Nov 28: Three female teachers of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Tani Happa (New Sagalee) have been alleged of harassing 88 school children in an indecent manner by way of undressing them in front of other students.
In an FIR submitted at the Sagalee Police Station on November 27 last, the All Sagalee Students Union (ASSU) alleged that teachers Thinley Wangmu Thongdok (AT), Sangeeta Khalkho (AT) and Nabam Janu (JT) forcefully ordered 88 students of class six and seven to undress before other students on November 23 last.
According to the information provided by the students, out of the 88 students, 14 were forced naked, while the rest were partly unclothed, with warnings not to disclose the matter to anyone.
Saying that the students are not safe under the custody of such teachers, the ASSU in its FIR demanded appropriate action against the erring teachers and to book them under appropriate sections of law at the earliest.
The All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) also demanded for immediate termination of service of Thondok, Khalkho and Nabam for the crime.
Reportedly, a few unidentified students wrote some inappropriate writings in a small piece of paper, which was later found by the alleged accused teachers, following which, all the students of class six and seven were called in for an explanation. This incident reportedly led to the punishment of the 88 students, said a press release from the APPDSU.
The Union was of the opinion that the teachers and school authority should have handled the matter in a mature way while dealing with young students.
It also questioned on why the parents were not intimidated about the students’ misconduct before handing out such a condemnable punishment.
The students also made several other complaints to the visiting ASSU team and claimed that some friends of the teachers disturb the atmosphere of the school with their loud music and alcohol consumption during night hours.
When students submit their complaints in the complain box addressed to the Chairman of the school, the teachers allegedly check the letters beforehand and the issues go unnoticed, said the students.
“The most painful part is that all the three accused are female teachers, who are supposed to act like elder sisters or mothers to the girls”, the APPDSU added and demanded stringent punishment for the erring teachers.
