Polling officials allegedly attacked; teachers demand action

AALO, Dec 28: A group of around 60 people allegedly assaulted Presiding Officer Karik Lollen and his polling team when they were returning from Siberite to Gensi during the recently concluded by-election to the Likabali assembly constituency.
Condemning the mob attack, the Arunachal Teachers’ Association’s (ATA)
West Siang district unit in a representation of the district election officer said the mob also damaged polling materials and EVMs, besides physically assaulting police officials.
It demanded that the attackers be booked under appropriate sections of the law and given exemplary punishment.
The ITBP personnel on duty had to fire five rounds in the air to disperse the mob, it said.
However, the polling team managed to escape with the help of the sector magistrate, the association added. (DIPRO)
