Hangpan Dada memorial tourneys begin

ITANAGAR, Dec 29: The district level football and volleyball tournaments for Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy began at Tezu, Lohit and Palin in Kra Daadi districts on Thursday.
The tournament at Tezu was kicked off by former minister Dr Nakul Chai at Jubilee Ground in the presence of Lohit Deputy Commissioner Karma Leki and District Sports Officer KC Das.
In his brief speech, Dr Chai lauded the state government for renaming and conducting the erstwhile CM’s Running Trophy in memory of martyr Hangpan Dada, who made the supreme sacrifice while defending his motherland.
Dr Chai expressed hoped that the sports event will continue to provide a platform to young sportspersons to show their talents.
Deputy Commissioner Leki recalled the circumstances under which Hangpan Dada made the supreme sacrifice.
There are 14 teams in the men’s football and 5 teams in women’s football, 11 teams in men’s volleyball and 5 teams in women’s volleyball, the DC, who is also the organizing committee chairman, informed.
He advised the players to maintain sportsman spirit and discipline throughout the tournament.
Later, the players were administered oath. A minute’s silence was observed as a mark of respect to Hangpan Dada.
At Palin, Tali defeated Palin 4-1 in opening men’s football match at THE general ground on 28 December.
Chambang Anchal Chairperson Miching Talang and attended the opening ceremony.
