LONGDING, Jan 9: The Women & Child Development department organised an awareness programme on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Monday.
Speaking as the resource person, Khonsa ICDS Deputy Director A Lowangcha emphasized the need to sensitize the public on laws enacted under the POCSO Act to curb child sexual offences.
Tirap DCPM Probation Officer C Khoyang made a PowerPoint presentation on the importance of the POCSO Act and the legal provisions under the law to protect children from sexual abuse.
Sub-Inspector Amo Pansa highlighted the role and functions of the police under the POCSO Act, while Medical Officer Dr Montu Lowang spoke about the role of doctors in providing care under the Act.
A short film on POCSO Act was also screened.
The ADC, the DMO, and members of the All Wancho Women Welfare Society and the Child Welfare Committee Longding attended the meeting, which was presided over by Longding Deputy Commissioner VS Mallik.
Later in the day, the Fire Services department organised a firefighting mock drill near the SBI office here to create awareness among people about fire safety.
Disaster management field officer Vijay Mitte explained how to prevent fire accidents.
The DC also attended the mock drill. (DIPRO)
