14-yr-old student clinches state chess title

ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Tadam Dupit, a class X student, clinched the ‘State Classical Chess Championship 2018’ title, outclassing many prominent players of the state.
The 14-year-old chess prodigy is the younger brother of former champions Tachung Dupit and Tabu Dupit of Upper Subansiri district, and won all the eight matches in a trot maintaining cent percent win record throughout the championship, which was organized by All Arunachal Pradesh Chess Association (AAPCA) in Naharlagun from 11 to 15 January.
Dr Rejum Ronya and Tamar Nilling came in second and third positions respectively.
Two players, namely Tapu Kaji and Tage Tamer were awarded international ratings after the tournament.
A five-minute ‘Blitz’ or ‘Lightening Chess’ event was also organized on the concluding day.
Hage Lassa Nado from Lower Subansiri district emerged as the sole leader on the board with eight points without losing a single game and clinched the trophy.
Tapir Mize from Siang district and Tamar Nilling from Upper Subansiri finished second and third.
The closing function was attended by Sangram ZPM Tamchi Kache and the former AAPCA general secretary.
Earlier, former State Rubber Board Chairman Likha Maj and Yazali ZPM Taba Techi attended the opening ceremony on January 11.
