Police apprehend drug peddler

LONGDING, Jan 31: Police on Tuesday apprehended a drug peddler with a sachet of brown sugar and other half-burnt narcotic substances from Kanubari under Longding district.
The drug peddler has been identified as Lemphu Ponglaham of Russa village under Kanubari circle, reports the DIPRO.
He was apprehended during a raid conducted by a team of police from Kanubari Police Station led by OC RK Rai.
Police also seized two brass pipes and silver papers used for drugs consumption.
A case has been registered against him at Kanubari Police Station under section 21(A) NDPS Act.
During police interrogation, Lemphu revealed that he is a drug addict and has been involved in drugs peddling for quite some time.
He further revealed that he had once helped one Phephun Lukham in procuring drugs from a dealer.
Phephun Lukham was arrested in December last year with heavy quantity of drugs under her possession and was released on bail within a week from her arrest, the report said.
Meanwhile, Longding SP Rohit Meena commended the team of police for the apprehension. The SP warned drug peddlers and addicts to either refrain from such illegal practices or face consequences.
Meanwhile, Longding Deputy commissioner Vikram Singh Malik appealed to the public of the district to cooperate with the administration in making Longding an opium and drug free district, stating that it was impossible for the police and district administration alone to tackle the situation.
He urged the public to join in the fight against drugs by sharing information about the persons indulging in such practices.
