Crime against senior citizens minimal in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Mar 18: Crime in Arunachal Pradesh is minimal when it refers to senior citizens.
As per the Home Ministry statistics, Arunachal Pradesh reported less than 10 cases of crimes against senior citizens between 2014 and 2016.
Uttarakhand and two other northeastern states Assam and Nagaland also reported less than 10 such cases in the said period.
Individually, Maharashtra topped the list with 3,981, 4,561 and 4,694 cases in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.
No cases of crime against senior citizens were registered in Jammu and Kashmir between 2014 and 2016, the data show.
Home Minister Kumar Waii told in the just concluded state Assembly that criminal cases in the state have marginally increased in 2017 with 2,731 cases registered during the year.
“Heinous crime like murder, attempt to murder, rape, kidnapping, dacoity and robbery has slightly decreased in 2017 (363 cases) in comparison to 2016 where 366 cases were registered,” Waii said.
He also said there was reduction in number of rape cases in 2017 with only 63 cases reported while 92 cases were registered in 2016. (With PTI inputs)
