Security forces bust NSCN (IM) hideout

MIAO, Mar 23: Security forces destroyed a temporary hideout of the NSCN (IM) here in Changlang district on Thursday.
Troops of the Assam Rifles, based on specific inputs about some operatives of the outfit – including a leader named Damting Tangkhul – trying to terrorize and extort money in Sonking and Kharsang areas, launched a swift operation and surrounded the hideout in the early hours of 22 March.
In the subsequent search operation, the troops found the hideout consisting of more than 10 temporary hutments. The militants had been using the hideout as an ad hoc base for operations to terrorize and carry out extortion in the neighboring villages, informed Kohima-based defence PRO Col C Konwer.
Security forces also apprehended a militant of the outfit, identified as self-styled corporal Ngshingbam Nalung.
During interrogation, Nalung admitted having allegiance to the NSCN (IM). He further divulged that he has been actively assisting and acting as corporal for the outfit, and that he is a part of a larger group of cadres led by self-styled major Damting Tangkhul, said the defence PRO.
