Union alleges misuse of fund meant for buying textbooks

ITANAGAR, Mar 26: The All Kra Daadi District Students’ Union (AKDDSU) has strongly condemned the state government for allegedly depriving the poor students of the newly-created Kra Daadi district by not distributing textbooks for three consecutive academic sessions – 2014 to 2015, 2015 to 2016, and 2017 to 2018.
The union stated in a press release that the director of elementary education had replied to a query through the RTI Act that Itanagar-based Sunrise Trading Agency had been hired by the department to supply 37,100 textbooks for Kra Daadi district.
‘But as per the textbooks verification report submitted by the DDSE, no textbooks were supplied for the 2015 to 2016 academic session for elementary education,’ the AKDDSU alleged.
The union added that fund sanctioned for the procurement of textbooks for elementary education in Kra Daadi district for the 2015 to 2016 academic session has allegedly been misused by the Education department and Sunrise Trading Agency ‘by not delivering the textbooks even after the supply order was issued.’
The union has demanded that the state government immediately inquire as to why the textbooks for elementary education in the district for the 2015 to 2016 academic session was not delivered, and to initiate appropriate action against the officer and the firm responsible for misusing fund meant for textbooks.
The union also called for distribution of textbooks for both elementary and secondary education in Kra Daadi at the start of the new academic session.
It has threatened to launch a democratic movement if the government fails to meet its demands.
