Arunachal organises national handloom expo in Sikkim

GANGTOK, Mar 28: The 15-day national level handloom expo under “North Eastern Textile Promotion Scheme” was inaugurated by Burtuk (Sikkim) MLA D R Thapa at the old children’s park here on Wednesday.
Fifty weavers, artisans and self help groups (SHGs) from Arunachal Pradesh are participating in the expo, along with numerous other SHGs from Sikkim and other states.
The national handloom expo is sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Handloom & Handicrafts Development Society.
The Arunachal Pradesh team is led by Tamal Bhattacharjee, Crafts Superintendent, Directorate of Textile as pavilion director and MI (HQ) Bamin Yakang and DO (HQ) H Taye.
Also present on the occasion were, C P Lepcha, Joint Director (D), Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Government of Sikkim, Tshering Gyamtso, Assistant Director (Marketing) , SHHDS, Government of Sikkim undertaking and other officers from the Sikkim Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom.
