NDRF organizes awareness campaign

CHANGLANG, Apr 20: A dozen-strong team from Doimukh-based 12 Bn NDRF, led by Inspector Bhaskar Kumar conducted a safety programme and mock drill at Rangrah Government College (RFGC) here on Friday to form first responders during natural and manmade disasters.
Students, teachers and staff of the college were actively involved in the programme.
Sub-Inspector Pramod Kumar explained life-saving tactics and steps to be adopted while rescuing victims in case of earthquakes and fire accidents, and Sub-Inspector Nikhil Malik spoke on appropriate actions to be taken during flood.
The team displayed how canines locate live victims trapped during earthquakes and other disasters, and familiarized the students with various equipment used during disasters.
Changlang Deputy Commissioner Wayong Khimhun said untrained human resource and lack of coordination might create confusion in responding to disasters, while RFGC Principal P Megu said such programmes are necessary for the students of the college staying in the hostel, due to the hostel’s vulnerability to hazards.
The NDRF team also conducted a community awareness programme and a capacity building programme for the students of the college.
On Thursday, the team had conducted a mock drill for government officers, panchayat members, NGO representatives and others at the general ground here on steps to be taken during earthquakes, fire accidents, and floods. (DIPRO)
