NIRJULI, Apr 27: The weeklong International Labour Day celebration organized by the All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) began at Nyikum Niya general ground here on Friday with the start of several sports and cultural events.
The celebration will conclude on 1 May.
Addressing the inaugural function, Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan lauded the service of the labour force in nation-building and said workers are the ones who lay the foundation of development.
He appealed to the labour community to enhance their knowledge and skills with technology and maintain the work culture. He assured his support in providing skill development training to the labour community, in association with the ITBP, and requested the AAPLU to send batches of 50 labourers for seven to eight different courses based on the prevailing demands in the state.
Naharalgun EAC Hento Karga said dignity of labour should be respected by everyone “as labourers are nation-builders,” while AAPLU president Dana Tadu asserted that the labour community “is shouldering the responsibility of developing the state with sincerity.”
Tadu also highlighted the problems affecting the community, and sought the government’s help to address them.
Delegates from various districts are also taking part in the celebration. Later, the DC and the EAC inaugurated the food stall and kicked off the sports events.
