NAMSAI, Apr 29: Colour television sets along with set top boxes were provided to 51 gaon burahs (GBs) of Namsai, Piyong and Lathao circles of Namsai district on Sunday.
The TV sets were provided under the Chief Minister’s Information Scheme to enable the GBs to gather knowledge about the developmental and welfare initiatives of the central and state governments.
Planning Parliamentary Secretary Chau Zingnu Namchoom, who distributed the TV sets, urged the GBs to make the public of their respective villages aware of the scheme, which is a part of the ‘Sankalp se Siddhi’ programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The fund for procurement and distribution of the TV sets was provided by the state government, while the fund for the set top boxes was provided by the local MLA.
Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma reiterated the importance of the GB institutions in overall development of the villages and urged the GBs to monitor the functioning of educational and health institutions and the performance of ASHAs and anganwadi workers.
He further urged them to inform the administration about any illegal activities within the villages, including illicit poppy cultivation and drug peddling.
When the GBs highlighted their difficulties, it was decided to hold quarterly circle level GB conferences to discuss and sort out the difficulties in a participatory process.
The meeting was also attended by the DIGP, HoDs, the ZPC, the ZPM and public leaders of the district.
