NEW DELHI, May 3: Amid controversy over merger of the Tomo Riba State Hospital with the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday met Medical Council of India (MCI) President Dr Jayshree Mehta and persuaded her for early operationalization of the state’s first medical college in Naharlagun.
During a meeting with the MCI president in New Delhi, the chief minister assured the MCI president that all requirements as per the guidelines will be positively met and all existing deficiencies will be fulfilled, according to an official release.
He gave details of the present status of infrastructure development as well as administrative and faculty set up of the TRIHMS, designated to be the first medical college of Arunachal Pradesh.
The MCI president has reportedly assured all help.
“It is now expected that the medical college will start soon,” the release said.
A day earlier, Pema had called on Union Health Minister JP Nadda seeking his intervention to get the academic session started at TRIHMS from the coming session.
The chief minister was accompanied by Principal Resident Commissioner Jeetendra Narayan and Health Commissioner Kaling Tayeng.
It is worth mentioning here that the first medical college of the state has been pending since 2015. For this, the government vacated many government offices from the old Secretariat and old State Assembly Complex in the heart of the town and also allotted 150 acres in the vicinity for future expansion of the institute.
