Mobile squad to enforce traffic rules: SP

ITANAGAR, May 20: Capital Complex SP Sagar Singh Khalsi informed that double-lane parking has been banned all along the city’s roads, and that a mobile squad comprising “reserved traffic wardens” has been created to move around the city to enforce traffic management rules.
“The mobile squad will tow rule-violating vehicles, lock the wheels, and impose penalty as per the situation,” Khalsi said during a coordination meeting here with Itanagar traffic wardens recently.
The capital area has been divided into seven zones – five zones under the Itanagar traffic OC, and two for Naharlagun – for effective traffic management, and all seven zones have been placed under the SDPO (traffic), Khalsi said.
Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan informed that the traffic wardens will be trained from June, in batches, at the Police Training Centre in Chimpu.
He also announced pay increment for the best performers among the traffic wardens as a morale booster. New uniforms for the traffic wardens were also introduced during the meeting.
The deputy commissioner reiterated his appeal to the citizens to obey traffic rules, as traffic congestions in the city are caused mostly due to haphazard parking and multiple-lane driving.
The traffic management plan of the city can also be accessed on the website of the Itanagar district administration, Itanagar.nic.in.
Besides the traffic wardens, representatives of the district administration and the police attended the meeting.
