LONGDING, May 26: Security forces gunned down a NSCN (IM) militant during an operation near Nignu village in Longding district in the evening of 25 May.
The slain militant has been identified as self-styled sergeant Pangang Gangsa, according to Kohima-based Defence Spokesperson Col C Konwer.
According to the spokesperson, the militant was killed in retaliatory fire.
A pistol with ammunition, along with grenades and other incriminating documents were recovered from the slain militant.
The militant was previously part of the NSCN (K) and was reportedly involved in an ambush against the security forces on 3 December, 2016, in Nignu, where two soldiers were martyred, informed Col Konwer.
Search operation is on for the other militant, who managed to escape, he said.
