CHANGLANG, Jun 21: Changlang district Deputy Commissioner Wayong Khimhun on Thursday conducted a review meeting of agriculture and allied sector of the district here in his conference hall.
Addressing the meeting, the DC asked the departments for convergence of schemes to bring sustainable and visible development in the district, adding that a majority of the population in the district depends on agriculture as a principle source of livelihood.
Endorsing the suggestion given by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Senior Scientist, Dr Narendra Kumar, the DC opined that cultivation of sugar cane in plain areas of Miao, Bordumsa and Jairampur sub-divisions could be feasible as cash crop in these areas.He directed the KVK and Horticulture department to encourage sugar cane cultivation in these areas by providing good quality and high yielding varieties of seed.
He also asked the departments of agriculture and horticulture to take expert advice from the scientists of KVK in implementing various livelihood schemes.
NABARD District Development Manager (DDM), Kamal Roy highlighted on the CM’s Sashakt Kisan Yojana, CM’s Krishi Samuh Yojana, Arunachal Agri Start-up Scheme, Agri Clinic Agri Business Scheme of the GoI and CM’s Krishi Rinn Yojana (KRY).
He added that through the CM’s KRY or KCC, farmers may acquire adequate finance from banks as most of the farmers depend on non-institutional means of credit for their immediate needs, such as purchase of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.
Agriculturists can purchase items related to their farming needs using their KCC and also withdraw the required amount for related expenses, the DDM added.
The HoDs of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, handloom and textile, KVK and ATMA gave detailed presentations on activities undertaken in the FY 2017-18; details of schemes implemented by respective departments; action plan for activities announced in the state budget; annual action plan for 2018-19, and social monitoring mechanism undertaken by the departments for implementation schemes.
