Depts urged to implement NTCP effectively

DAPORIJO, Jun 30: Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner (in-charge) Manik Bui sought cooperation from all the departments for effective implementation of the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) in the district.
Addressing government officers and heads of educational institutes during a District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) meeting here on 28 June, Bui asked them to install ‘No smoking’ boards in their office premises. He asked educational institutes to set up boards displaying the COTP Act as a step to control tobacco consumption in school compounds.
Bui also ordered the formation of an enforcement committee and a flying squad to check the rising use of tobacco products in the district.
DMO Dr R Sikom urged the DLCC members to work with dedication for successful implementation of the NTCP.
DTCC District Programme Officer Dr T Dakpe and NTCP consultant Tasso Yanku gave presentations on the topics ‘Tobacco – A global burden’ and the COTP Act respectively, while social work mobilizer (NTCP) Mekhya Rebee spoke on the roles and responsibilities of the DLCC members.
The meeting was organized by the District Tobacco Control Cell.
