PASIGHAT, Jul 1: Police here apprehended a minor in possession of psychotropic drugs during a checking at the 2 Mile check gate on Thursday.
Nine strips of Nitrozepam tablets and eight packets of ganja (marijuana) were seized from the possession of the boy, who was traveling in an Aalo-bound night passenger cab (Tata Sumo).
The checking was conducted by a team of police led by DSP Torum Makcha. The drugs were intended to be delivered to a customer in Aalo, police said.
During interrogation, the boy revealed that he was engaged in the illegal job by an Itanagar-based non-tribal drug supplier.
Speaking to this correspondent, activists of the Women Against Social Evil (WASE) said it has become a new tactic among drug suppliers to engage minors to peddle drugs to avoid arrest.
“The drug traffickers are turning to innocent children to peddle drugs, which has become a cause of serious concern,” the WASE activists said, and vowed to continue their fight against the illegal trade.
